This detailed artwork of the Bridge of Sighs, designed by architect Daniel Burnham and completed in 1888. The Bridge of Sighs is an enclosed walkway that crosses above Ross Street and connects the Allegheny County Courthouse to the Allegheny County jail. Burnham modeled the bridge after Venice’s iconic Ponte dei Sospiri, constructed in 1600, both bridges share small windows where it was said criminals sighed while looking out, capturing a powerful moment in history.
