A single color linoleum (or wood block) print is a process that entails carving out of the plate whatever the artist wants to be white (or the color of the paper they have chosen). The plate is inked with the artist's choice of color ink and a piece of paper is laid over the plate and cranked through a printing press or hand burnished to transfer the ink from the plate to the paper. Each print is signed and dated by the artist.
 
An open edition is a plate that is not marred after a certain number of prints made. Typically, in a limited edition, The plate is ruined after a certain number of prints so that no more can ever be made.
